Illness cancels tour

The classic rock band Yes has cancelled its 40th anniversary tour following frontman Jon Anderson's severe asthma attack last month. The 63-year-old singer, who has since been diagnosed with acute respiratory failure, was ordered by doctors last weekend to rest for at least six months "or suffer further health complications". That means no hitting the road for Anderson, who was to kick off the band's 26-city summer tour in Quebec on July 12. "I'd like everyone [to] know how deeply disappointed I am by this turn of events," Anderson said. "I was looking forward to celebrating our music with the amazing family of Yes fans once again; but as we all know, health must come before anything else."

Scott Hamilton & Friends, Across The Tracks

Tenor saxophonist Scott Hamilton is primarily known as a key interpreter of the jazz mainstream, the old songbook, before it even turned into bebop. Who better to record, mix and master this album of funky 1960s-style organ-guitar blues, than the original Blue Note Records sonic mastermind Rudy Van Gelder?

Hamilton grew up in Providence, Rhode Island, and as a youngster was surprisingly influenced by blues guitarist Duke Robillard, who was also emerging from the same area. In recent years, Hamilton has been developing an organ-based combo sideline, particularly when making festival appearances, but it's unusual for him to record in this setting. Despite moving to New York, Hamilton did make an album with Robillard on Rounder Records in 1986, and the two have occasionally collaborated through the decades. The tenorman is presently settled in London town.

This quartet boasts the Duke himself on guitar, Gene Ludwig at the organ, Chuck Riggs on drums and Doug James guesting on fulsome baritone saxophone, sparring with the bandleader on two tracks. All sleeves are rolled up for a smoky (well, not any longer), greasy all-night session, clipping between fast-trotting groovers and seductively oozing ballads.

Hamilton's tone is as honeyed as ever, and the Robillard/Ludwig team ensure that the archetypal formula is realised in its paramount state. Yes, the band doesn't step outside this predictable set-up, but there are many worse ways to spend a retro listening hour. Nothing untoward happens, but the playing is pristine throughout, very slightly dirtied around the edges, but mostly seeping with sophistication.

Sean 'Diddy' Combs Eyes David Beckham Collaboration

Rap mogul-turned-designer Sean 'Diddy' Combs is so impressed by David Beckham's style, he wants to collaborate with the soccer ace on a fashion line.
The rapper and the sports star have become close friends in recent years, and Combs was even spotted partying into the early hours with Beckham and his pop star wife Victoria while visiting London last year.
But Combs - who has his own Sean John clothing line - admits he would like to turn their friendship into a business collaboration and launch a fashion project together.
He says, "What a stylish guy. I'd love to do a fashion range with David Beckham. He's a good friend and is very kind. Us two together doing business would be amazing.
"I heard he is doing a shoe range with (rapper) Snoop (Dogg). That's cool, but I would love to do fashion with David. I already have a fragrance and clothing line, but I'd love my next project to include him. Perhaps we could collaborate to do something for charity."

Star Trek - George Takei To Wed Following California Gay-marriage Ruling

STAR TREK actor GEORGE TAKEI will be the latest celebrity to take advantage of California's gay marriage ruling when he weds his longtime partner later this year (08).

The 71-year-old star - known for his role as Sulu in the 1960s sci-fi series - has announced plans to walk down the aisle with partner Brad Altman this summer (08), after state authorities lifted the ban on same-sex marriage last Thursday (15May08).

The couple has been together for over 20 years.

In a posting on his website, Takei writes: "Our California dream is reality. At long last, the barrier to full marriage rights for same-sex couples has been torn down. "

The actor first opened up about his sexuality to speak out against California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's 2005 veto on gay marriage.

Comedienne Ellen DeGeneres was the first star to announce that she and her actress-girlfriend of eight years, Portia de Rossi, are planning their nuptials, making the news public on her U.S. talk show on Friday (16May08).

Fox talks about Lost in the future

Actor Matthew Fox, who plays Jack in 'Lost', has been talking about what lies ahead in the series.
Speaking to the film website comingsoon.net about his new thriller 'Vantage Point', Fox found the time to talk about 'Lost'.
Following the resolution of the writers' strike in the US, Fox said that he would be going back to shoot more episodes for the fourth series of 'Lost' this spring.
"We probably won't get all of the eight [episodes] we owe," said Fox, "but I'm sure we'll get five or six of them."
Fox remained coy on the development of his character, Jack, and whether he would become a hero or villain in the series.
He said: "I think the idea of hero or good guy, bad guy is sort of an antiquated notion in a lot of respects. I think it's more interesting to accept the complexity of all of us and hope that he makes heroic choices in very difficult circumstances."
He continued: "I really feel like 'Lost' and what I'm getting to do on that show is pretty complex, and it's evolving as well. (Jack) sort of started as this idea. Everybody wanted him to be this heroic guy, and actually, he's really flawed and the island is stripping away this deep compassion in him and bringing out a much darker side, so there's an evolution that's happening in the character that's always been important to Damon [Lindelof, 'Lost' creator] and myself."
Of the fourth series, Fox said: "I think the fourth season will close those two moments of time of Jack in the future and Jack feeling like he's being rescued. The season will be about answering all those questions of who got off with him? Who's in the casket? Why does he want to go back, this guy of all people? Why is he suicidal and desperate to go back?"
In his interview with comingsoon.net, Fox did offer a hint about the timeframe of the series, when asked how much time had passed on the island since the aeroplane crash.
He said: "If you're going to talk about from Jack in the plane crash to Jack in the future, that's about a year-and-a-half, and Jack on the island now would be about 120 days."
